Who we share the road with

There was a wreck caused by a drunk driver that tied the road up for over 2 hours.  Rich took the opportunity to talk to people waiting for the road to clear.  Off to the side some brave souls tried a detour on the Navajo Pavement and when we finally went through watched the people who were stuck  trying to get unstuck. The fellow that was hit was ok.  



We took a quick trip to Farmington to watch our Grandkids and Daughter in Music Man.  We can take the credit for Daija's talent, but maybe Bridger and Lizzy have some Heaton talent in them.  Cutest Winthrop and Amaryllis

We have been praying for rain and it finally came.  Navajo Pavement is even trickier when it's muddy.  But within hours you couldn't even tell it had rained. Please continue to pray for rain for this region.

The Miracle of Christ


In July of 2018 our Cabin burned down.  One of our sheds survived and we call it our Miracle Shed.  It truly was a miracle as the cabin and the sheds on both sides of it burned down.  It has taken us 4 years to take the plunge to rebuild.  We are hopeful  that it will again house girls camps, boys camps and family reunions.  I was thinking that rebuilding lives is a bit like rebuilding this cabin.  The rubble of damaged lives sometimes takes years to rebuild.  Our property will never be the same. Hopefully better. I can remember a month or two after the loss, walking through the charred ground and seeing new growth.  I have witnessed the lives of those damaged by the fires of life and realize the hope of Christ is the best rebuilder.  The gospel of Jesus Christ  is the fertile ground where regrowth can flourish.  Jesus Christ is the seed of rebuilding.   He helps us grow and become more than we could by ourselves.     He can take charred land and make it beautiful .  He can make a path that will keep you safe in the future.  He can comfort a broken heart.  He can help you walk through ruins and feel hope for the future.  
Let Jesus Christ be the miracle in your life

Missions are great learning experiences. You get to meet new people and experience new cultures and thoughts and ideas. Some of those experiences are a little more trying than others. Things I have learned this month.   NAVAJO PAVEMENT Looks like a nice safety barrier....... Until enough people run into it - and it looks like this  For those that know me – you know I don’t like anything close to “high adventure”. While traveling on Navajo Pavement (sand, slickrock, washboard dirt, gravel, steep inclines, and deep washes) is a challenge and exciting for Rich, it somewhat terrifies me. I know how to have a tight grip on my seat and my eyes closed as we travel some of the roads. I can’t believe people travel these roads daily.  (The miracle is I haven’t gotten out and walked yet – thought about it but haven’t done it.)  Traffic Jam - One Lane dirt road  Our area is the area in blue.  FOOD  Navajos would rather eat fry bread than a cinnamon roll or cookie.  Last Tuesday we had a funeral for a 32 year old Navajo young man who was killed in a car accident.   We didn’t know any of his family, but our Branch President was conducting the funeral, so we needed to be there.  We got to the church and noticed the hearse was there and people were all outside milling about.  No one had a key.  One of Rich's key to another building fit the kitchen door, so he opened up and then people thought he knew stuff and were asking questions that he didn't have answers to.  They had the funeral service first and then the viewing after.  After the funeral and viewing we followed the hearse and people out to Navajo Mountain to a family plot.   We drove almost 70 miles to get to a dirt road and then probably 5 miles on a one way dirt road that dead ended at the family cemetery.  I wondered what kind of hearse would be able to go on what Rich terms Navajo Pavement – a combination of sand, rocks, mud, slick rock, etc.  It was a white suburban. 4 Wheel Driv
